Singer-Songwriter Jordana Graces Fans With 3 Singles Ahead of Album Release

by Luca Lovrich

Our favorite midwestern bedroom pop artist, Jordana, has teased 3 tracks ahead of her upcoming album release titled Lively Premonition!

To be completely honest, I’m not sure that I believe in love at first sight. But I appreciate the question Jordana posed in her first line of the single We Get By. Ahead of her upcoming album release, the public was graced with three singles, We Get By, Like a Dog, and Anything for you.

We Get By's lush violin made it hard to contain the groove I felt when listening to this song, while still encouraging me to pay attention to the lyrics. Jordana is no stranger to powerful lyricism, and her seemingly carefree attitude along with the chords and melody of this song carry a deeper meaning within the lyrics. “We get by.” Sure. Yeah, I’m happy to get by! Especially with someone by my side! But looking beyond that, Jordana beautifully layers themes of a life without materialistic worry with a hope for simple love. Could she have expanded her lyrics a bit more…nah. It’s simple, and so is the honeymoon phase in a relationship. No thoughts, no worries, just an immense warmth radiating from one's heart, immersing every inch of the body in new love. The message matches; life can be simple.

Like a Dog is my favorite. Funk guitar and jazy drums? Yes please. I’ll take three of them. Lyrically, Jordana is able to convey a sense of longing for love, need for escape, and yet a sense of desire so unmatched that she must return to the person she loves. She takes on the role of a dog that keeps returning, like dogs do. I’ve found this feeling very hard to put into words - how can we justify a need to return to someone who they know isn’t the best? Hozier attempts it beautifully in Cherry Wine, and here Jordana takes a cut at it, but rather than a soft spoken ballad, she gives a remarkably upbeat, jazzy performance. She’s happy to come back again and again, because after everything, her partner appears to have love for her. Situationships suck.

Anything for You bolsters this release in an emotionally wise track. More longing, more desire, more regret. Is it regret? I’m not too sure, and I don’t think she is either. But, that’s the beauty of the song. This last track is so simple in its explanation of a troubled love, it pains me to make any critique. With 3 incredible releases, and Instagram livestreams teasing even more amazing tracks, Jordana Autumn is inevitable.
